Successful community-wide efforts and fundraising will pay off Monday, April 16 when the town breaks ground on the Milton Outdoor Performance Center (MOPC) at 6 p.m. at the town recreation fields. Milton Outdoor Performance Center Co-Chair Lonnie Poland and Karen Edwards coordinated efforts of the Cornerstone Community Church and the United Church of Milton to establish the center. They raised $20,600 through donations and performances to construct the performance center which is expected to be open this summer.

In a little more than one year, Poland and Edwards had plans approved and raised money for the project. “The town’s been very supportive and receptive toward the idea,” Poland said.

The performance center will be a shell-shaped metal structure with a raised stage. The roof will be capable of suspending all types of performance equipment such as lights and backdrops.

The public is encouraged to attend this event which marks another step forward for Milton.

Further information and photos about the Milton Outdoor Performance Center can be found at www.miltoncenter.org.
